Chapter 3

Sorting Thoughts
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: J.K. Rowling owns Harry Potter, not me...throws a pity party.

Tori and Marius silently sat opposite of each other in a compartment on the Hogwarts Express. They wore matching unmarked uniform robes. The uniforms, including the stripes on the jumpers and the ties, were enchanted to remain black until they were sorted.

Tori's honey blonde hair reached just past her shoulders and framed her face in soft curls. Her sapphire eyes were clouded in deep thought as she stared out the window into the night sky. She pondered which house she going to sorted into. Tori had no biased opinions toward the houses and drew her conclusions from what Blake had told her and what she had read in Hogwarts, A History.

Slytherin, a house for those who were cunning. Mabye she would be sorted into Slytherin; most Purebloods were. Tori was rather clever and skillful, but was she cunning? Maybe Ravenclaw; the house of wisdom and intellect. She had intellect, but no wisdom. Perhaps Gryffyndor; a brave and noble house. Tori spoke her mind and never backed down from a challenge. But did that make her brave or just plain stubborn. There was also Hufflepuff; the loyal and fair house. Tori thought herself to be both loyal and fair, but was she suited for Hufflepuff?

"You awfully quiet for once," Marius teased, bringing Tori out of her reverie.

"Oh, shut it."

"Make me."

"Okay. Marius do you remember last summer when we went swimming…"

"Stop! Stop! You swore never to talk about that!" Marius cut her off frantically.

Tori giggled and grinned widely at Marius' scowl.

Marius' silver grey eyes glared hotly at Tori. She, in turn, reached over and tousled his black hair.

"Oh get over it, you baby."

"I'll get you back."

"Whatever you say," Tori replied.

"So what were you thinking about?"

Tori paused for a moment then asked, "What house do ya think you'll get sorted into?"

Marius knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was going to be in Slytherin. He had to be he was a Pureblood. Plus, his entire family was sorted into Slytherin. If he didn't get into Slytherin, he'd be better off at Azkaban.

"Slytherin, of course."

"How do you know?"

"Ummm… well, firstly Slytherin's the best house. Secondly, I'm Pureblood. Thirdly, my family has been sorted into Slytherin for ages. I can’t be sorted anywhere else."

Tori outwardly rolled her eyes at Blake's reasoning, but inwardly contemplated his words.
